All members of the JCU community can request materials not available in the Frohring Library collections through Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery services (ILL/DD).
ILL/DD services are always free for Faculty members.
Graduate and Final Year students can get up to 5 items as interlibrary loans (per semester) from Italian Libraries for free. For any request that exceeds the free ones, users will be required to pay shipment expenses and lending library fees, if any.
All other patrons are always required to pay the shipment expenses and the lending library fees. Shipment expenses within Italy may vary from €5 to €8 approximately.
For interlibrary loans that come from libraries located outside of Italy, all users (with the exception of the Faculty) will have to pay a fixed fee of €35.
Requests for interlibrary loans will only be provided if they can be fulfilled by library located outside of Rome. If the items requested can be accessed in Roman libraries, the librarians will provide the relevant information and the requestor will be able to get hold of the items by going directly to those libraries.
Before posting any request, patrons should first check the library catalog and electronic collections to verify that the needed item is not already present in the Library, either in print or in electronic format. Requests can be placed directly through JCU Discovery (see related guide), or via email (ill@johncabot.edu). They will be processed within 1 business day. The requestor will receive an e-mail notification as soon as the item is ready to be picked up at the Welcome Desk.
Each patron can have up to 5 active requests at any given time (including pending requests and checked out books).
Interlibrary Loans are intended exclusively for book materials in print format.
Please note that Libraries do not usually lend the following items:
Textbooks used in JCU courses cannot be requested as an interlibrary loan.
Delivery time cannot be determined in advance, it may take from one week (national deliveries) to four weeks to receive requested items. Patrons should keep in mind delivery times when placing requests.
Loan rules and durations are established by the lending library and must be respected. In some cases lending libraries may require not to allow the items to be used outside of the Frohring Library. Renewal requests are allowed and must be made before the initial due date.
Document Delivery is the service that provides articles or chapters/parts of books not owned by the library.
Please note that, according to the Italian Copyright Law:
Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery requests can be be sent to ill@johncabot.edu. They will be processed within 2 business days.
