Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services for JCU Community


All members of the JCU community can request materials not available in the Frohring Library collections through Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery services (ILL/DD). 

ILL/DD services are free for Faculty members, Graduate and Final Year students. Other patrons are required to pay shipment expenses and Lending library fees, if any.

Before posting a request, patrons should check our catalog and electronic collections to verify that the needed item is not already present in the Library, either in print or in electronic format.

Requests can be placed directly through JCU Discovery (see related guide), or via email ( They will be processed within 1 business day. The requestor will receive an e-mail notification as soon as the item is ready to be picked up at the Welcome Desk.

Each patron can have up to 5 active requests at any given time.


Interlibrary Loan (book materials)

Please note that Libraries do not usually lend the following items:

  • Ebooks
  • Media (DVDs, CDs, etc.)
  • Textbooks
  • Old and rare books
  • Theses
  • Issues of journals
  • Non book materials

Textbooks used in JCU courses cannot be requested as an interlibrary loan.

Delivery time cannot be determined in advance, it may take from one week (national deliveries) to four weeks to receive requested items.

Loan rules and periods are established by the lending library and must be respected. Renewal requests must be made before the due date expires. 

Items can then be returned by using the book-drop box at the entrance of the Guarini Campus.


Document Delivery (copies of articles, chapters, etc.)

Please note that, according to the Italian Copyright Law:

  • copies are always for personal use only;
  • it can be copied up to 15% only of the total number of pages of a book;
  • copies can be provided to patrons by means of a printed document only, not electronically.

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery requests can be be sent to They will be processed within 2 business days.

The following materials are excluded from loan:

  • Reference books
  • Textbooks
  • Theses
  • Periodicals
  • Media
  • Ebooks

Loans last one month and can be renewed. The Frohring Library reserves the right to recall documents.

  • National interlibrary loan: € 8.00 per item
  • International interlibrary loan: € 20.00 per item
  • Document delivery: Free

Payment is possible with Italian stamps or IFLA vouchers. Agreements can be made for free reciprocal ILL/DD services.

Reproductions are sent in compliance with Italian copyright law restrictions.

The Frohring Library is liable only for damages incurred during shipment to the borrowing library (if appropriately notified). All other damages will be covered by the borrowing library according to the lending library request.

  • i libri della sezione Reference
  • i libri della collezione textbooks 
  • le tesi
  • i periodici
  • gli audiovisivi
  • gli Ebooks


I prestiti hanno durata mensile e possono essere rinnovati. La Frohring Library si riserva il diritto di richiedere in anticipo la restituzione dei libri.

Il pagamento può avvenire con francobolli italiani o IFLA vouchers. E’ possibile stabilire accordi di reciprocità gratuita.

Le riproduzioni si effettuano nel rispetto delle norme vigenti sul diritto d'autore.

Il rimborso di eventuali danni del materiale inviato è da intendersi a carico della biblioteca richiedente.
