Moodle Quickstart Guide for Students

Working with Assignments

The Assignment tool is indicated with the following icon and it allows you to complete an assignment and later view feedback, and sometimes a grade, from your instructor.

Depending on how your assignment is set up, you may be able to type directly into a text field, upload files in any type of digital format, or do both. Usually, professors ask students to upload a document. Think of this as an alternative way to the email to send your paper to the professor.

To complete an assignment you will have to follow these steps:

  • Go to your course home page.
  • Click on the assignment link
  • You will be redirected to the Assignment page that includes the description of the assignment (if set by the instructor) and the Submission status table with details about the due date.

  • Click on the Add submission button to upload your paper.
  • Drag your files into the assignment drop box area and click on Save changes. The submission status will change into Submitted for grading.

The Assignment tool   can be integrated with the plagiarism detection software Turnitin

After submitting the assignment, you will be assigned a Turnitin ID that your professor will use to check the paper for plagiarism.

Turnitin Assignments

Your professor can also decide to use the Turnitin Assignment Turnitin assignment

  • You will be redirected to the submission page where you can click on Submit paper and upload your assignment.

  • Drag your files into the assignment drop box area and click on Add submission

  • You will then receive a digital receipt of your submission to certify the successful upload.

  • The submission status will change into Submitted for grading.
  • Once the Similarity report is ready, in the Submission page, under Similarity, you will see a percentage. By clicking that number, you will be able to access the full similarity report, and, once ready, your instructor's feedback.
