A digital repository is an application or a set of applications that allow users to add, manage, preserve and disseminate digital content.
Digital repositories are usually hosted and maintained by large institutions, often affiliated with the academic world. Universities and colleges use digital repositories to store and retrieve their intellectual assets. Scholars and Professors can use digital repositories to disseminate their works outside of the normal publishing regimes, enhancing opportunities for accessing existing research and encouraging collaboration.
