BeWeb: Catalogue of Artworks of Italian DiocesesThe BeWeb portal is an online catalogue of artworks held by churches in Italian dioceses. It is published by the Vatican in consultation with a number of state agencies, including the Ministry of Culture.
N.B.: The database is primarily in Italian, though certain search features are identified in English.
The database, currently containing records on over 3.5 million objects, is a work in progress. At present certain large cities, including Florence and Milan, have no objects represented within it. After completion, the database will be continually updated with more data on each object. The cataloged items include objects ranging from painting and sculpture to crucifixes and reliquaries. Along with low-resolution images of the items themselves, descriptive data for each object include measurements, dating, material type, and an assigned subject and typology.
