Libraries in Rome: Welcome!

This guide provides you with directions and introductory information to libraries in Rome  that can be useful for your research. Use the map below to see their location.

The guide is organized by discipline according to libraries' most important collections. Expand the map to see the alphabetical list of all the libraries included.

BEFORE GOING

  • Be aware that Italian libraries tend to privilege Italian language for their collections; their staff may not speak fluent English; books are often in closed stacks and need to be requested by filling a form.
  • It is advisable to start with searching online catalogs to identify specific works to request.
  • Check in this guide the access policy requirements for each library. They vary a lot!
