We are actively working to provide textbooks in digital format when they are not already in the library collection and will be listing in this page possible solutions as soon as they become available.


The Redshelf Response initiative enables students to read up to 7 free eBooks from participating publishers until May 25, 2020. To take advantage of this opportunity, you will need to create your own account according to the following instructions.

  • Step 1: Go to
  • Step 2: Click on “Create an Account”. A form will be displayed (see the image below). Fill in your details. Under “Search for School” you will have to tick “I can’t find my school” and type in “John Cabot University” yourself.


  • Step 3: A confirmation message will be sent to the email you provided. Check that email and click on “Verify Account”. You will be brought to this screen. Click on “Search” to type in key words, a title, or the ISBN of the book you are searching for.


  • Step 4: Click on “View Details” of the book you want to borrow.

  • Step 5: Click on “Add To My Shelf” to borrow the eBook.

  • Step 6: You will be brought to a page where you can click “Start Reading” to access the eBook.  Once you “start reading” the book, it will instruct you on features such as flipping pages with the keyboard arrow keys and highlighting text by holding and dragging your cursor. 

  • Step 7: At any point, you can go to “My Shelf” to see what you have borrowed by clicking on your name and then “My Shelf” in the upper right-hand corner.


Remember: There is a limit of 7 books that you can borrow. Loans will expire on May 25th. You can read them online but cannot download them.

PLEASE NOTE: You must use in order to search for the free eBooks. If you just go to, you will see books for purchase.
If, after selecting  a book, it says "Add to My Shelf" you are in the right place and your reading is free. If it says "Add to My Cart" you are in the vending platform and are purchasing the book.
