In the past year an unprecedented assault on the freedom to read has escalated everywhere, especially in the United States, where many are experiencing book challenges firsthand, along with threats to library workers. This is the reason why this year 's Banned Books Week, which is celebrated on September 18-24, is more important than ever. We must continue to raise awareness about threats to intellectual freedom in any shape or form.
At the Frohring Library we try to keep as a diverse collection as possible, we do not want to censor or silence voices, and we encourage the JCU community to read a challenged book and raise awareness on the issue. The reason for challenging books are many, take a look at the infographic to discover the most common ones according to 2021 censorship reports.
So join us and read a challenged book. You can find inspiration among the ALA list of Frequently Challenged Books or you can take a look at what is available in the Frohring Library:
A selection of these books will also be on display in the Aurelian WIng.
